Parents reminded to apply for reception class places for 2017

Parents and guardians of children who will start school for the first time in September 2017 are being reminded that they must apply for places now.

The window is now open for applications for reception places at infant and primary schools in Wolverhampton. The online application process is quick and easy but families should note they only have until 15 January, 2017 to register their preferences.

Around 50% of applicants have already completed the process, while around 200 have begun but are yet to finish their application and others have not yet started.

Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "Parents or guardians of children who are due to start school next autumn should now be completing their applications.

"This is one of the most important decisions a parent can make for their son or daughter and they should think carefully about which school they'd prefer their child to attend.

The application process is straightforward and should only take a few minutes to complete. Councillor Darke added: "It's important that you get your applications in by the deadline of 15 January, 2017, as applying after this time could have a detrimental effect on the chance of securing a place at one of your preferred schools."
