Children and young people across Wolverhampton are taking part in a wide range of free activities thanks to the exciting new physical activity programme, Yo! Active – and others are invited to sign up now so they don't miss out.

The City of Wolverhampton Council has teamed up with Wolves Foundation to deliver Yo! Active, available to all Wolverhampton residents up to the age of 18, or 25 for care leavers or young adults with special educational needs or disabilities.

The Foundation is providing up to 40 hours of free activities every week at the council's WV Active leisure centres, community centres and other locations around the city between now and 2026, while the Yo! Active programme also offers free swimming, gym sessions and court bookings for children and people at WV Active. For more details of the range of activities available, please visit Yo! Wolverhampton Young Opportunities

More than 2,500 children and young people have already signed up to take part. To join them, children and young people need to have a free WV Active account which can be created online through the WV Active website, by calling 01902 551010 or by visiting WV Active Aldersley, WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams or WV Active Central.

John Denley, Wolverhampton's Director of Public Health, said: "Yo! Active is inspiring more and more of our children and young people to take part in regular physical activities. Becoming more physically active can help improve heart health, build strong bones and muscles, control weight and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and it's also a great way to make new friends.

"Over 2,500 children and young people have already signed up to take part in the wide range of activities offered by Yo! Active, and I'd encourage other youngsters, parents and guardians to check out what is on offer and sign up so that their children can enjoy free access to high quality physical activities all year round."

Tom Warren, Foundation Senior Manager, added: "We’re delighted with the uptake on sign ups to the project so far. There are many fantastic opportunities to take part in free sport that really aren’t to be missed so would encourage people to get signed up to sessions and have a great time."

Meanwhile, the Yo! Wolves holiday programme will return for this May half term, offering hundreds of free and low cost activities throughout the school holiday, including the Yo! Active programme. Find out more about what's on where at Yo! Wolverhampton Young Opportunities shortly.
