The Mayor of Wolverhampton is inviting people to join him at the annual Civic Sunday parade and service which takes place shortly.

The event takes place on Sunday 14 July, 2013, and will see Mayor Councillor Milkinder Jaspal lead the people of the city in an act of worship.

The celebrations begin at 10.30am with a parade of uniformed military and civilian organisations, including units from the regular and volunteer forces, pre-service units and veterans, led by the Pipe Band of the West Midlands Fire Service.

The parade will march from Wulfruna Street to St Peter's Collegiate Church via Prince's Square, Lichfield Street, Queen Square, North Street, Cheapside and St Peter's Square.

At the same time, a Civic Procession will form-up at 10.40am and leave the civic centre 5 minutes later for the short walk across St Peter's Square to the church, where the formal service led by the Reverend David Wright will begin at 11am. All faiths are welcome.

At the end of the service, at around 12pm, a second parade will leave Wulfruna Street and follow the original route, passing the Mayor in Lichfield Street where he will take the salute. The Pipe Band of the West Midlands Fire Service will bring proceedings to a close by playing a short programme of music in St Peter's Square.

Mayor Councillor Jaspal said: "Civic Sunday is an important occasion in the Civic calendar and I would like to invite all members of the public to attend."

As a result of the parade, Wulfruna Street will be closed to all traffic from 8.30am on 14 July, and there will be minor disruptions to bus services along the parade route. Wulfruna Street will reopen at approximately 12.30pm.
