Old Fallings Adventure Playground in Low Hill closed in February following numerous instances of vandalism in recent years which have left one of the buildings in a state of disrepair and the other totally unusable.
The buildings have become a health and safety risk and would require significant investment to bring them back into operational use. As a result, the 2 acre site was closed, secured and declared surplus to requirements.
Local residents are invited to meetings taking place on Thursday (18 October) to discuss the possible future use of the site. They will be held at Low Hill Strengthening Families Hub, Fourth Avenue WV10 9LZ, with 2 sessions taking place, one at 1pm and another at 5.30pm.
Councillor Peter Bilson, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Assets, said: "Old Fallings Adventure Playground was unfortunately subject to a sustained campaign of mindless vandalism over many years, and whereas previously we attempted to carry out repairs wherever possible, it became increasingly apparent that the situation was not sustainable.
"Given that the council has not fully utilised the facility for a number of years it was agreed to close and secure the site earlier this year. We are now looking at whether it could be used to help meet the growing demand for new housing in the city by developing around 20 houses on the site.
"I would encourage local residents to find out more about the options for the future use of the site, and have their say on them, at Thursday's meetings."
