With less than a week before the deadline, around 80% of parents and carers of children who will start school for the first time in September 2024 have now applied for a place for them – and the rest are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

The deadline for applications for children due to start reception in September is this coming Monday (15 January, 2024) and parents are asked to submit theirs as a matter of urgency.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Work, said: “If your child is due to start school for the first time this autumn, you should set aside time over the next few days to complete your application form, if you haven't already done so.

"The application process is straightforward and only takes a few minutes to complete, and you should ensure you get your application in by Monday's deadline, as applying late could impact your chance of securing a place at one of your preferred schools.

Councillor Coogan added: “It’s important to remember that even if your child is in nursery provision at either primary or infant school, you will still need to apply for a reception class place.”

To apply for a school place, parents and carers should log on to School admissions and complete the short application process. Parents and guardians will be notified of their child’s allocated school place on 16 April, 2024.

Applying online has a number of benefits. Applications are made through a secure website and can be viewed and edited online up to the Monday's closing date for applications. Applicants will also be able to access their child's school place allocation online on 16 April, 2024 rather than having to wait for the post.
