Visitors to West Park can now enjoy a work out on a special outdoor gym which has been installed in the popular park.

The gym offers a wide range of exercise machines, including a leg press, exercise bike, space walker, surfer, chest press, skier and parallel bars, and has been installed next to West Park's tennis courts.

The new outdoor gym joins another one recently introduced to the Renton Road open space in Oxley, which includes an exercise bike, surfer, chest press and skier.

The 2 additional gyms bring the total now available across the city to 24, and have been installed thanks to a £30,000 grant from Wolverhampton's Public Health team.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "We already have 22 of these gyms at locations around the city. They are very well used and I am sure the new ones will prove equally popular.

"Outdoor gyms include much of the same equipment found in an indoor gym, but they are specifically designed for outdoor use.

"They are suitable for adults of all ages and fitness levels, and best of all they are free to use."

The Friends of West Park were among those calling for the introduction of the outdoor gym, and Monica Evans, Acting Chair, said: "The Friends of West Park are really excited to see the new gym equipment in the park."
