The Call-in mechanism provides a way for councillors who do not sit on Cabinet to ask that particular decisions are reconsidered by the person or people who originally made them. Call-in cannot overturn a decision, but it can result in a recommendation that a decision be reconsidered or withdrawn.
Timescales
Call-in requests must be received within three working days of the decision being published.
Who can make a call-in request
A call-in request can be made by the following Councillors:
- Leader of the main opposition group
- Deputy Leader of the main opposition group
- At least three members who are not members of the Cabinet.
What happens next
The Monitoring Officer will assess the validity of call-in. If the Monitoring Officers judges the call-in to be valid, it is referred to Scrutiny Board.
