Guidance and information on the UK Parliamentary election taking place on 4 July, 2024.

For candidates wishing to stand in the general election, the Returning Officer will be holding a briefing session on Wednesday 29 May at 5.30pm for prospective candidates and agents.

Here are some things you need to know before polling day:

  • You need to be registered to vote. The deadline is 18 June and it is quick and easy to register online
     
  • You need photo ID if you want to vote at a polling station. View a full list of approved forms of ID
     
  • If you don't have one of the approved forms of ID you can apply for a voter authority certificate. This is a free form of photo ID you can use at the polling station. The deadline to apply for a voter authority certificate is 26 June, 5pm.
     
  • You can apply for someone to vote on your behalf at your polling station. They will need to show an approved form of ID. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 26 June, 5pm. For more information please visit Apply for a proxy vote.
     
  • You can also vote via post. You do not need photo ID to do this. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 19 June (5pm). For more information please visit Apply for a postal vote.
     
  • Your polling station may have changed since you last voted – please check your poll card to make sure you go to the correct polling station.
