Bikeability is the government’s national cycle training programme that teaches children practical cycle skills and how to cycle safely and confidently on roads.

What is Bikeability?

Cycle training is taught by friendly, qualified Bikeability instructors. Courses include Learn to Ride where children learn to pedal and stop their cycles independently, Level 1, where children learn the fundamentals of cycling in a traffic-free environment, Level 2, where they learn cycling techniques and road safety on quiet roads, and Level 3, that focusses on more advanced cycling skills.

City of Wolverhampton’s Council Road Safety Team provide Bikeability Learn to Ride training courses for 6-8 year olds and Bikeability Level 2 and 3 for 8-15 year olds at Aldersley Leisure Village during school holidays. Bikes and helmets can be provided for courses subject to availability. Please state on the application form should your child need to borrow a bike and helmet.

All level 1,2 and 3 participants must be able to ride a bike without stabilisers. Children who are unable to ride will be sent home.

Cancellations can be made up to 48 hours before the course starts. After that a transfer onto another course will not be possible. We may need to cancel courses due to insufficient interest. In this case we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible. If we have to cancel planned courses due to adverse weather conditions we will transfer places onto the next available programme.

Please ensure you provide your child with a packed lunch if training is taking place over the course of a full day. Please also ensure your child has suitable waterproof/ protective clothing on the training day. Sunscreen must be applied on hot/sunny days.
