What is a NHS Health Check?
- The FREE NHS Health Check is available to adults aged between 40 and 74 (without pre-existing conditions) once every five years.
- It accesses your overall health and can help reduce your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, some cancers and dementia.
What to expect?
- It takes about 30 minutes and is delivered by Health Care Professionals in your GP Practice.
- You will receive a blood test to check your cholesterol and glucose levels.
- Questions include current lifestyle choices around smoking, alcohol, diet, physical activity and family history.
- Results will be communicated to you with personalised advice to improve your health and reduce your risk of developing serious conditions.
Am I eligible?
- The check is available to adults aged between 40 and 74 without pre-existing conditions. For more information please visit NHS Health Check.
- If eligible, you will receive an invitation from your GP practice in due course.
- If you think your check may be overdue, please contact your GP practice.
