As a Private Hire Vehicle Operator, you can complete our online application to renew your licence with us.
You will receive an email 1 month before your licence expires. This will explain how to submit your renewal application. You should submit this application at least 10 working days before your licence expires. You do not need the renewal notice to apply.
When your application is processed, you will receive a notification to make payment either online or via telephone. Subject to all checks being satisfactory, your licence will be granted.
IMPORTANT: You must submit your renewal application before your expiry date. Otherwise, you cannot operate Wolverhampton-licensed vehicles.
Application requirements
To process your application, we require:
- A business premises in Wolverhampton. See here if you would like to look at possible locations.
- You may be asked to also provide planning permission.
- Employer/Public Liability Insurance certificates, providing a minimum of £5 million in cover.
- DBS certificates.
- We will require a basic DBS certificate. Certificates must be no older than 12 months from the date of the former licence expiry.
- If you are a Limited Company: All Directors will be required to submit this certificate.
- Please post all pages of the original certificate to:

- Where a licence applicant has been outside of the UK for three or more months continuously since the age of 18, a ‘Certificate of Good Character’, ‘Certificate of Good Conduct’ or equivalent is required. Please see here for further information.
- A HMRC Tax Check code.
- Registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
