For approval of a driver safety enclosure (DSE) as a manufacturer/supplier, see below:

If you wish for this to be on the 'approved' list, it must meet our requirements.

The Council is in talks to secure a trade discount for driver safety enclosures. We will send an email to all licence holders with information on approved suppliers.

The enclosure:

  • Must use rigid plastic glazing.
  • Must protect the driver from all passengers.
  • Must meet the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.
  • Must meet the standards for road traffic collisions by Millbrook/UTAC or HORIBA MIRA.
  • Must have professional installation. This by a competent person in line with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Fitting must be within the accordance of the following regulations:
    • UN ECE R43.00 and R21.01
    • Section 12 of the M1 category DVSA IVA manual
  • Must not adversely influence or interfere in any way with the vehicle type approval.
  • Must not affect the structural integrity of the vehicle.
  • You cannot change this from the original manufacturer design. If modified, the manufacturer must confirm that there are no safety issues. There must not be any non-compliance with UK and/or EC safety legislation if modified.
  • Must not affect any safety equipment, such as airbags, or escape from the vehicle.
  • Must be 100% transparent.
  • Must permit clear conversation between the driver and passengers.

Please provide evidence of compliance to vehicle.lic@wolverhampton.gov.uk. This must contain your safety documentation for consideration. The Licensing Manager’s decision is final.
