As an incentive for bringing long-term empty properties back into use, the City Council has agreed to contribute up to £500 towards legal and/or marketing fees.
While a property is unoccupied, Council Tax liability could range between £1,103 to £3,310 each year. A transfer of ownership or occupation of the property removes this liability and in addition, the City Council has agreed to contribute up to £500 towards legal and/or marketing fees when a property is sold on the open market or rented via the City's leasing scheme. A property is considered to be "long term empty" following an empty period of 6 months and the following additional exclusions apply -
Conditions - Private Sale:
- Property must be within the City of Wolverhampton
- The property would not be sold without the intervention of the Council
- The offer is on a first come first served basis and targeted to priority groups
- The property must be sold within 6 months of being put on the market
- The property cannot be sold to a relative of the current owner
- Initial disbursements connected with the sale can be funded with the incentive
- Agreement that any outstanding monies owing to the Council are cleared from the proceeds of the sale.
Conditions - Rented via the City Council:
- Property must be within the City of Wolverhampton
- The property would not normally have been rented without the intervention of the Council
- The offer is on a first come first served basis and targeted to priority groups
- The lease between Wolverhampton Homes and the Council must be signed within 6 months
- The property must be accepted as suitable in terms of quality and sustainability for the leasing scheme.
