Applications must be made to your home Local Authority, even if you are applying for schools in another Council area.

All secondary schools in Wolverhampton provide numerous opportunities for you and your child to visit before expressing a preference.

Admission authorities for each school must set out the criteria against which places will be allocated at the school when there are more applications received than places available, and the order in which the criteria will be applied. A copy of the admissions policy is available on each respective school’s website.

Applications should be made online. Before making your application, please ensure that you have read and understood the Parent’s Guide and Secondary Education in Wolverhampton Booklet (in the downloads section) which contain important information about making your school place application.

Applying online has the following benefits:

  • Applications are made through a secure website
  • Applications can be viewed/edited online up to the closing date for applications
  • Applicants can access their child's school place allocation online on 3 March 2025 rather than having to wait for the post

Applications must be made by the national closing date for applications of 31 October 2024. Making an application after the closing date can reduce the chance of your child gaining a place at one of your preferred school choices.

You are allowed to express a preference for five schools. Due to the popularity of Wolverhampton schools, you are encouraged to use all five preferences.

In addition to the online application, if you are applying to the following schools, you are required to complete an additional Supplementary Information Form.  The form should be completed and returned direct to the school:

  • Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy
  • St Edmund's Catholic Academy
  • St. Peter's Collegiate School
  • St Regis Church of England Academy
  • The Royal School, Wolverhampton
