WV Active-Aldersley will host Wolverhampton's first ever Walking Hockey Festival this weekend.

It is being organised by Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club with the support of the City of Wolverhampton Council and will feature 10 teams from across the West Midlands, including three from Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club, one of which includes an entire family.

Increasing in popularity, walking hockey is perfect for players who are looking for a less physically demanding version of the game but still enjoy showing their skills and being involved in the team and social aspect of the sport, or those who want to experience a new sport for the first time.

The Walking Hockey Festival takes place at WV Active Aldersley from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday (6 July, 2024), while the Wolverhampton walking hockey group, which has been named Community Club of the Year by the Wolverhampton Sports Advisory Council and was also recently highly commended by England Hockey, meets at the same venue on Wednesdays from 11am.

Tim Lorimer, Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club secretary, said: "Walking hockey is exactly as the name suggests – you play hockey while walking. It’s designed to help you keep an active lifestyle regardless of your age, health and ability, as well as getting people back into hockey who may have had to stop due to injuries or other reasons.

"This is the first festival of its kind and has resulted from walking hockey becoming more popular, and we hope that people can come along and find out more this weekend.”
