The search is on for Wolverhampton's first Young Poet Laureate.

The City of Wolverhampton Council’s Library Service and Boomwriter are encouraging children and young people aged between 7 and 18 to create a poem of any style based around the title of 'My City, My Future'.

All young people who take part will have the chance to vote on who makes it through to the grand final.

Each finalist will perform their poems to a panel of judges who will decide upon the overall winners of each category, and who is crowned Young Poet Laureate for Wolverhampton 2019-20.

Finalists will have their work published in a poetry anthology and will receive a free copy of the book. In addition, winners will be invited to perform their poem at Wolverhampton Literature Festival 2020.

The competition runs from 7 October to 1 November, with voting from 4 November to 10 November; there are 3 age categories – 7-9, 10-13 and 14-18. Entry is free and for details, please email russell@boomwriter.media

Councillor Harman Banger, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, said: "We're looking for Wolverhampton's first ever Young Poet Laureate so, if you're a poet and you know it, here's your chance to show off your talents to the whole city."
