Tickets for the Grand Slam of Darts in the City of Wolverhampton are already proving popular.

The global event was switched to Aldersley Leisure Village (WV Active Aldersley) in 2018, while its usual home, the Civic Hall undergoes a £38 million overhaul.

The success of the move is now bearing fruit, with ticket sales in the first week for this year’s tournament at Aldersley, to be held from 9 to 17 November enjoying an increase of almost ten per cent more than at the same stage last year.

City of Wolverhampton Council Visitor Economy Manager, Crissie Rushton, said: “With the Civic Hall closed for renovation, we were determined to keep high-profile events in the city.

“Both the council and PDC were delighted with how well the tournament took to its new venue at Aldersley last year. The customer feedback from the fans was great, with people enjoying the bigger venue and the atmosphere.

“The Grand Slam of Darts makes a big contribution to the local economy and puts City of Wolverhampton on the map, as it is watched in over 130 countries across every continent.

“The initial sales figures for this year’s tournament are hugely encouraging and I would urge everyone to snap up a ticket to enjoy one of the best global sporting events in the calendar.”

Tickets for the 2019 Grand Slam of Darts are on General Sale, with fans also able to take advantage of a special shuttle bus service from Wolfruna Street to the Aldersley Leisure Village.

32 players from both the PDC and BDO systems will compete across nine days at the hugely popular tournament, which was won in 2018 by Gerwyn Price, a former rugby player from Wales who has made his mark in a new sport.

The Sky Sports televised event initially sees the 32 split into eight groups of four for the round-robin phase over the opening four days from Saturday 9 November.

The top 2 players from each group then progress to the knockout stages before the tournament concludes with the semi finals and final on Sunday, 17 November.

This year's event will see Price defending the title he claimed last November following a controversial final against Gary Anderson, who is also set to be in action in Wolverhampton.

PDC World Champion Michael van Gerwen, new UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall, Players Championship Finals winner Daryl Gurney and World Youth Champion Dimitri Van den Bergh have also qualified so far for November's event.

In addition, World Championship finalist Michael Smith, former Grand Slam runner-up James Wade, 2018 World Champion Rob Cross and German youngster Martin Schindler are also set to compete on the Grand Slam of Darts stage.

Further PDC players can qualify by reaching the finals of televised tournaments in the coming months, including at the Premier League – which is currently in action on Thursday nights ahead of May’s Play-Offs – and the forthcoming World Cup, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and European Championship.

Tickets on General Sale will be available through Ticketmaster via wolvescivic or 0870 320 7000.
