The City of Wolverhampton Council has co-ordinated a wide ranging programme of activities featuring hundreds of events and activities which are taking place across Wolverhampton during the school holidays.
There are more than 300 Summer Squad activities scheduled over the 6 week break - with more being added every day. They include arts and crafts, holiday clubs, sports and games, family fun days, science workshops and much, much more. Most events are free, and parents, children and young people can see and book activities at Summer Squad 2019.
Event organisers say that thousands of children and young people have participated in activities in the first 2 and a half weeks of the holidays, while nearly 14,000 unique users have visited the website.
The programme includes dozens of special events at the city's galleries and museums, a wide range of activities including the ever popular Summer Reading challenge across Wolverhampton's 16 libraries, and Disney themed and family swim sessions, athletics, badminton, table tennis and tennis at the council's WV Active leisure centres.
There are football schools and sports and games sessions in Wolverhampton's parks in association with the council, Wolves Foundation, WV Active and The Way, while children and young people can get close to nature at Northycote Farm, Wildside Activity Centre and Gatis Community Space.
There is also an extensive programme of activities being offered by HeadStart Wolverhampton in partnership with Gazebo Theatre, the WV10 Consortium and YMCA Black Country, organisations across the city are holding a number of family fun days and The Way, WV Active and Wolverhampton Wanderers are once again offering their ever popular holiday clubs.
Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Summer Squad is certainly capturing the imagination of our children and young people and it's great to see so many people joining in the fun.
“There's so much going on that there’s sure to be something for everyone, no matter what you are interested in or where you live – please check out the website Summer Squad 2019, to find out what’s happening."
