Wednesfield and Fallings Park Local Neighbourhood Partnership and Wednesfield High School have teamed up with Souled Records and Signal 107 to host Wednesfield's Got Soul.
The competition is open to anyone aged over 11, all genres of music and to solo artists, bands and vocal groups.
The overall winner will win a single release and the runner up will win a recording session sponsored by Souled Records
Closing date for applications 31 March, 2014 and local auditions will be arranged after this date.
The final will take place at the Wednesfield Community Fun Day being held at Wednesfield High School on Saturday 14 June, 2014.
James Clarke, Chairman of Wednesfield and Fallings Park LNP and who is part of the organising team, said: "We have been excited about this competition as a main attraction for the Wednesfield Community fun day.
"Wednesfield and Wolverhampton has some fantastic talent out there and we want to celebrate this talent and give them the opportuinty to get on to the music industry ladder by recording a single for release courtesy of Souled Records."
Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for people in Wednesfield to demonstrate just how talented they are.
"To have the chance to record and release a debut single will be a dream come true for many so I urge singers and musicians in the area to sign up for the contest."
