Voters must provide acceptable photo identification in the polling station before being issued with their ballot paper. Forms of acceptable photo ID include passport, driving licence (including provisional), and Blue badge with full details available at Voter ID or by calling their helpline on 0800 328 0280.
Anyone without an accepted form of photo ID should apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. This certificate is available at Apply for photo ID to vote (called a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’) or Voter ID | Electoral Commission but please note that applicants should already be registered to vote before applying for a Voter Authority Certificate.
For anyone not already registered to vote, the easiest way to do it is online at Register to vote and the deadline for this is Tuesday 12 September. When registering, you’ll be asked whether you have photo ID or if you want to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate is Wednesday 20 September, 2023.
We are holding 2 drop in sessions at Low Hill Community Hub, Kempthorne Avenue, WV10 9JJ, to help voters without valid ID to apply for a voter authority certificate:
- Session 1: Tuesday 5 September, 5pm to 7pm
- Session 2: Friday 12 September, 11am to 1pm
