Anyone living within a 4 mile radius of the city boundary can now order hot or frozen meals that will be delivered direct to their door.
As long as there is enough interest from a specific area to make it viable, the city council will arrange daily deliveries to that area.
The council wants to be able to extend its popular Meals on Wheels facility to people living in outlying areas near the city boundary whose own council does not provide the same service.
In June 2012, Wolverhampton City Council changed its eligibility criteria for Meals on Wheels and opened it up to everyone. Before then, only people who passed an assessment by social services were entitled to receive the delivered meals.
Now those living in nearby areas like Sedgley, Coseley, Willenhall, Darlaston and South Staffordshire villages like Codsall will be able to benefit.
A daily delivered hot meal plus a dessert provided by Wolverhampton City Council will cost £4.35 for those living outside of the city. Frozen meals, which are cheaper and delivered fortnightly, are also available.
Councillor John Reynolds, Wolverhampton City Council's cabinet member for city services, said: "The council's Meals on Wheels service is a genuine success story.
"Since June 2012 we've delivered more than 103,500 meals, we're now serving around 240 customers each day.
"Until now, however, our Meals on Wheels have been available only within the city boundaries, but we saw an opportunity to open the service up to a wider market.
"Today, people living outside the city can sign up and get a hot meal and dessert delivered for just £4.35. That's just 20 pence more than a resident of Wolverhampton would pay".
The council's Meals on Wheels service provides a wide range of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Afternoon teas can also be supplied.
Councillor Reynolds continued: "It's important to remember, though, that Meals on Wheels means much more to our customers than a hot meal each day. Our friendly and professional team of drivers also provide a valued social service, greeting their customers with a smile and taking the time to see how they are.
"All in all, it's a fabulous service and it's great news for people outside Wolverhampton that they can benefit from it."
