There is just a week remaining for parents and carers to apply for reception class places for children who will be starting school for the first time in September.

The deadline for applications for children due to start reception this autumn is next Wednesday, 15 January, 2025, and parents and carers are asked to submit theirs as a matter of urgency.

To apply for a school place, please visit School admissions and complete the short application process. Parents and carers will be notified of their child’s allocated school place on 16 April, 2025.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “Over three quarters of parents and carers of children who will start school for the first time in September 2025 have now applied for a place for them – and we’re encouraging the rest to do so as soon as possible.

“This is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child’s future. The application process is straightforward and should only take a few minutes to complete – please set aside time and get your application in by next Wednesday, as applying late could affect your chances of securing a place at one of your preferred schools.

“It’s important to remember that even if your child is in nursery provision at either primary or infant school, you will still need to apply for a reception class place.”

Applying online has a number of benefits. Applications are made through a secure website and can be viewed and edited online up to the closing date for applications of next Wednesday, 15 January, 2025. Applicants can also access their child's school place allocation online on 16 April, 2025, rather than having to wait for the post.
