Thousands of adults in Wolverhampton are taking part in the Better Health: Rewards programme – and are being reminded to keep on taking their challenges to earn more points.

People can choose from 2 different challenges each week, from moving more to choosing healthier snacks, cutting down on fried food, increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables they eat, eating leaner meat, swapping foods for options that are lower in fat or higher in fibre, and many more.

Every participant will be able to claim rewards worth at least £40 to spend with major retailers like Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Aldi and Argos, or swap them for gym passes, cinema tickets or money off family days out.

Wolverhampton was chosen by the Department of Health and Social Care and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities to pilot the Better Health: Rewards scheme, designed to see whether offering adults rewards and incentives helps them to eat better and increase their physical activity levels.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “Everyone who has signed up for Better Health: Rewards and has fully completed their 'to do' list has the chance to earn at least £40 worth of rewards and take weekly challenges where they will earn points for making healthier choices.

“This is all about making small changes that can make a big difference so, if you're part way through your challenges for this week, good luck – and if you haven't selected them yet, open up your app and take your pick.

“Remember, you get 7 days to complete each challenge, and then you will be given the choice of taking the same challenge again, with a new target, or swapping it for something else."

People who are having any issues with their fitness tracker or the app are advised to check out the frequently asked questions in the app or at Better Health: Rewards  or email betterhealthrewards@customersupport.team. Please note, the Better Health: Rewards Hub is now closed.
