As part of the 2025 Wolverhampton Literature Festival, the City of Wolverhampton Council's library service has launched a competition for Wolverhampton schools to find a Young Poet Laureate aged 12 to 18 and a Primary Poet Champion aged 7 to 11 to represent the city.
To enter, children and young people are asked to write a poem about friendship entitled 'Life is better with friends'.
Entries should be emailed to els@wolverhampton.gov.uk and the deadline for submissions is 29 November, 2024. Finalists will be invited to a live event to find the overall winner in each age category.
Robert Johnson, Head of Service, Community Information, said: "We're looking for Wolverhampton's next Young Poet Laureate and Primary Poet Champion so, if you're a poet and you know it, here's your chance to show off your talents to the whole city."
Prizes will include vouchers for each winner, medals for finalists, and goody bags for those shortlisted.
Teachers who are interested in signing up for a class or school to enter are asked to email els@wolverhampton.gov.uk for more details.
