The City of Wolverhampton Council is working with the Department for Health and Social Care and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities to pilot Better Health: Rewards, designed to test whether offering adults rewards and incentives can help them eat better and increase their physical activity levels.
Well over 20,000 Wolverhampton residents have now signed up for the exclusive programme – and many are already earning rewards for making healthier choices. It is open to anyone aged 18 and over and the deadline to join is Friday 31 March, 2023.
Jo Flavell, Health and Wellbeing Specialist at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “We are committed to supporting and maintaining the health and wellbeing of our staff.
"Higher levels of wellbeing are associated with decreased risk of disease, illness, and injury, better immune functioning, speedier recovery, increased longevity and improved mental health.
“All staff have access to an extensive and holistic health and wellbeing offer and, as part of this, our staff who live in Wolverhampton are encouraged to download the Better Health Rewards app – and we would encourage other residents of the city to do the same.
“It provides free help for a healthier you, and through using the app you are able to unlock rewards such as free supermarket vouchers, cinema tickets and gym passes.”
Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: "It's great that so many major city employers like The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust are encouraging staff members who live in Wolverhampton to sign up for Better Health: Rewards.
"We've sent out thousands of free fitness trackers to participants, and many residents are already claiming their rewards and spending them with the likes of Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Aldi, Asda, Morrisons, Argos and M&S, or swapping them for passes to gyms and leisure centres across Wolverhampton like WV Active.
"If you haven’t yet signed up, do so today so you don’t miss out on the chance to earn rewards. To get started, all you need to do is download the free Better Health: Rewards app, available from the AppStore or Google Play. Remember, it’s free, you can earn at least £40 worth of rewards and we’ll even send you a free fitness tracker if you need one.”
