Wolverhampton City Council is working in partnership with Wolverhampton Homes to deliver a free 'handy person' service. The service is available to homeowners who are aged over 60 and are in receipt of income related benefit, and to homeowners of any age who are registered disabled and are in receipt of income related benefit.
The service, which will cover the winter period until March, will help residents with small repairs to improve the security, safety and comfort of their home and allow them to continue to live independently.
Repairs that can be carried out will range from fixing leaking taps, broken windows and securing loose carpets to energy efficiency measures to make their homes warmer.
Residents who access the service will be visited by a customer service officer who will discuss their living conditions to identify what works, additional support or grants that might be beneficial to them. The works will then be carried out by Wolverhampton Homes; the Council's arm's length housing company.
Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity, said: "We are delighted to launch this excellent initiative that will help some of our most vulnerable residents during the cold, winter months.
"The handy person service will offer a range of services from home safety to energy efficiency, all of which will help improve the standard of living for people across the city.
"I would encourage all residents who meet the criteria to take advantage and make the most of this useful service."
Shaun Aldis, Director of Property Services at Wolverhampton Homes added: "The new handyperson service is a really exciting project and will mean we can help people make improvements to their homes."
People wishing to access the handy person service will be able to do so by calling City Direct on 01902 551155.
