There will be breastfeeding support available alongside a range of ‘have a go’ activities such as pregnancy and baby yoga, baby massage, sling safety and access to antenatal support.
The drop in event takes place at Graiseley Family Hub, WV2 4NE, next Monday (5 August, 2024) from 1 to 3pm. For further information, please email rwh-tr.infantfeedingteam@nhs.net.
Poppy Davies, Breastfeeding Support Co-ordinator at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “The UK has some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world, with studies showing that 90% of UK women stop breastfeeding before they want to.
“We know how difficult it can be though, especially in the early days of breastfeeding, so we hope that parents will come along to find out more about feeding their babies and see what support is on offer for them. This way they can feel more prepared to overcome any feeding challenges that may arise when their baby arrives.”
Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, added: "Breastfeeding has long term benefits for mother and baby and so we're keen to encourage it.
"Research shows that babies who are breastfed are less likely to develop a range of illnesses such as ear infections and upset tummies. It also sets the child on a healthy growth path. And the longer you breastfeed, the longer the protection lasts and the greater the benefits.
"The aim of this event is to give parents the information they need to make a fully informed choice on feeding their baby, and to support and develop their relationship with their new arrival. They can also get advice about a range of other issues which will benefit themselves and their child, and have the chance to meet other new parents.”
