From Friday 20 April, they are holding a 6 week course - an 'Introduction to Family History Research' - designed for complete beginners and those who have done a little research but don't know what to do next.
Participants will finish the course with the knowledge of where to find records and the confidence to use them to take at least one line of their own family history back to the early 1800s.
The team will advise on the basics of birth, marriage and death registration, and the census records, before moving on to military, criminal, employment, and many other records, which tell the unique story of each person's family.
Penny Smith, Chair of the Friends of Archives, said: "I have been teaching family history courses for several years and researching my own family history for 40 years.
"Participants will have the opportunity to see what records are available, and how to access them at Wolverhampton City Archives, to assist with their own research."
To participate it is not necessary to have family roots in the City of Wolverhampton or the Black Country, as the records are the same for all of England and Wales, and Scottish records are very similar. For those with roots outside of the UK this is a good starting place as, by understanding English records, it is then possible to move on to researching overseas.
The sessions will take place every Friday at 10.30am. The course costs £30 per person. To book you place please call 01902 552055.
If you are unable to make this course there will be 2 other courses taking place later in the year from 15 June and 9 November. From Friday 20 April, they are holding a 6 week course - an 'Introduction to Family History Research' - designed for complete beginners and those who have done a little research but don't know what to do next.
