Three adults with a profound and multiple learning disability from Wolverhampton will be starring in a photographic display going on show in Birmingham later this month.

David Bache, Kenny Oates and Parmi Banga have taken part in a project organised by the rights based charity, Changing Our Lives.

Changing Our Lives approached the City of Wolverhampton Council's day opportunities service to work together on the project, called Front and Centre, which involves people with a profound and multiple learning disability and their families.

It aims to see beyond disability, using photographs to tell people’s stories, locating the lives of people with a profound and multiple learning disability within family portraiture to show ordinary experiences, such as growing up and family life.

Workshops facilitated by Changing Our Lives were held at the council run Action for Independence for the trio and their families, and they were also given disposable cameras to take candid photos at home.

The exhibition will go on show at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham from Thursday 17 April until Monday 21 April, 2025, and entry is free.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: "The council has worked closely with Changing Our Lives on many different projects over the years to help improve the lives of people with learning disabilities.

"We know that people with disabilities are rarely given opportunities within the arts as their disability can, wrongly, be seen as a barrier.

"So we are delighted to be able to work with Changing Our Lives and to give David, Kenny and Parmi the chance to be part of this important exhibition."

The exhibition is supported by the UK Government's Inclusive Communities Fund, the West Midlands Combined Authority's Commonwealth Legacy Fund, Heart of England Community Foundation, and the United by 2022 Legacy Charity.
