The city's Queen Square will be turned into a tropical paradise, with palm trees, sand and deckchairs, on Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, 2015, for a free family fun day - including complimentary ice cream and candy floss for the first 400 visitors.
As well as soaking up the sun, visitors to Seaside in the City can take part in a range of free activities, including testing their surfing skills on a simulator, or their strength on the High Striker.
Games of giant Kerplunk, Jenga, Snakes and Ladders and Twister will also be on offer throughout the day, while lovers of traditional seaside entertainment have the chance to try their luck at hook a duck or on a coconut shy in Dudley Street.
There will also be face painting, circus skills and sandcastle building competitions, while storytellers will ignite children's imagination in St Peter's Gardens from 11am to 3pm.
Seaside favourites Punch and Judy will also be performing in Queen Square from 11.30am to 3.30pm.
Visitors have the chance to win a £50 House of Fraser voucher by helping to pick the best dressed seaside shop window and can get their hands on a booklet packed with money off coupons for city centre retailers.
Seaside in the City is being organised by Wolverhampton BID Company and director Cherry Shine said: "This free family event will transform Queen Square into the seaside for the day and inject a little fun for our visitors. It also provides us with another opportunity to support city centre businesses which is a key priority for the BID Company."
Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: "We know that families in Wolverhampton love the seaside, and it's great that, instead of having to travel miles to the coast, the BID is bringing the seaside to the city centre. This promises to be a fantastic event for everyone, young or old."
