In honour of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, which marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War, Civic Halls staff are holding the war time dance on Friday 6 June.
Much loved big band music from the likes of Glenn Miller will get dancers in the mood for war time nostalgia when the Wulfrun Hall opens its doors from 12pm to 4pm.
Dancers of all ages are being encouraged to don vintage costume and uniform to make the anniversary dance a special occasion remembering those who took part in the Normandy landings, the start of Operation Overlord.
Civic Halls manager Mark Blackstock said: "We are holding a special D-Day Dance to mark the anniversary of the Normandy Landings and we are encouraging as many people as possible to dress up in vintage 1940s costume and take part.
"It's a rare chance to listen to the music of the period fill the Wulfrun Hall, which 70 years ago would have been the place for goodbyes and reunions for many serving soldiers, American GIs and their girlfriends who came here to dance and forget their war time troubles.
"While we have a lot of couples who enjoy our regular Friday dances, we would love to see a younger crowd join them on the D-Day dance floor because it's a real one off. In the future we're looking to adapt the dance so that it reflects the age of its latest regulars whose music heritage lies very much in the 60s and 70s."
The dance starts at 12 pm and costs £3, including complementary tea and biscuits.
