The annual event celebrates people's recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. Each year, a different city or town has the honour of hosting the National Recovery Walk, which includes a public parade and a celebration gathering of people in recovery and their families and friends in a Recovery Village.
Interested parties, including Wolverhampton, were invited to submit bids to host next year's walk by the trustees of Faces and Voices of Recovery UK (FAVOR UK), and Wolverhampton and Solihull are the 2 shortlisted venues.
People are being urged to support the Wolverhampton bid, which is being driven by The Good Shepherd and Wolverhampton Voluntary and Community Action’s Service User Involvement Team (SUIT) in partnership with the City of Wolverhampton Council and Recovery Near You, by voting for the city via X, Facebook or Instagram. Voting ends next Thursday 12 December, 2024.
If Wolverhampton's bid is successful, the city will host the 2025 National Recovery Walk in West Park on Saturday 13 September, 2025.
Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: "Hosting the National Recovery Walk will be a great opportunity to highlight the importance of recovery and demonstrate our city's commitment to supporting those on their recovery journey.
"As a council, we are dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing, and we see this event as a vital step in our ongoing efforts to support recovery and resilience in our communities.
"If Wolverhampton is successful in its bid, we will work closely with all partners to make the National Recovery Walk 2025 a significant and memorable event for everyone involved – so please take a moment and give our bid your backing."
