The charity’s ‘Treecycling’ initiative, is now in its fifth year, but this is the first year the City Council will lend their support. The scheme, open to all living in WV postcodes, is supported by volunteers who in exchange for a suggested minimum donation of £15 will collect real Christmas trees on 11 and 12 January, before being shredded and turned into biofuel.
Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, cabinet member for resident services at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “Treecycling is a great initiative that will help raise much needed funds to provide care for local people and their families.
“The staff at Compton Care offer such important help during incredibly difficult times and, as we are no longer providing our own tree collection service, we wanted to support them this year with theirs.
“I would encourage anyone who is able, to register for a collection. And I would like to express my thanks to everyone at Compton Care for all the work they do for our community, all year round.
“On a personal note, Compton cared for a family member in his final days, and I can’t thank them enough for everything they did.”
James Elliott, Deputy CEO of Compton Care said: “Last year we collected over 500 trees. It really is a win win campaign, Wolverhampton residents will be easily disposing of their tree in an environmentally friendly way, and their donation will help us to care for local people and their families.
“We would like to say a ‘big thank you’ to the City of Wolverhampton Council for supporting this campaign, providing volunteers for the scheme, and assisting with some of the logistics.”
The charity provides high quality, accessible care and support, tailored to individual needs, and is open 24/7 throughout the festive period ensuring they are there for patients and their loved ones when they need it most.
Those wishing to recycle their real Christmas tree through the scheme can register their tree by heading to Compton Care.
