A series of workshops are being held over the next few weeks to introduce carers to Telecare assistive technology, and find out how it could help them and the person they care for.
Through the Telecare service, people can have a range of gadgets installed in their homes, from emergency alarms, fall monitors and movement detectors to smoke and flood sensors and automated pill dispensers
Should one of these alarms or sensors be activated, either by the customer themselves or in response to an incident such as a fall, a message is sent to the council's 24 hour emergency control centre.
There, trained operators will establish the most appropriate response for the customer, be it contacting a family member, carer, doctor, the new mobile responder service provided by West Midlands Fire Service or the emergency services.
Councillor Sandra Samuels OBE, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adults, said: "Telecare is playing a vital role in helping people to live more independently and in providing peace of mind and reassurance to Telecare customers and their families and carers.
"These workshops are a great opportunity for carers to see and hear how Telecare can provide practical help and reassurance to them in their caring role."
As well as practical demonstrations of Telecare equipment and details of the various support packages which are available, the workshops will showcase the mobile responder service and Safe and Well Checks offered by West Midlands Fire Service.
The 2 hour long workshops are being held at Wolverhampton Fire Station, Merridale Street, on Tuesday 28 February from 10.30am to 12.30pm and Tuesday 14 March from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, and at Fallings Park Fire Station, Bushbury Road, on Thursday 2 March from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and again on Thursday 16 March from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
