Some 23 care leavers enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner at the event at The Way Youth Zone on Friday (29 December). It was organised by care leavers with the support of the council, and was made possible thanks to donations from staff and local organisations.
Councillor Val Gibson, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "This was a great event for young people who had a fabulous day, enjoyed a delicious Christmas meal and got to open presents together.
"I would like to thank the young people who organised the event and everyone who donated food, drink and gifts to make it possible. None of the donations went to waste, as the young people decided to offer up any spare items to help the homeless.
"We hope the Christmas dinner will now become an annual highlight for our care leavers."
Every year, the council helps scores of young people reaching adulthood make the move out of care to independent living, with it currently supporting over 300 care leavers aged between 18 and 21.
