The Symposium takes place on Saturday 15 February, 2020 at Wolverhampton City Archives’ Molineux Hotel Building, from 10am to 4pm.
It is an annual event that showcases new and often very significant research into the history of Wolverhampton through a series of short presentations.
As well as the chance to share findings with local history enthusiasts, speakers will also be in the running for a Local History Bursary of £400, sponsored jointly by the Express & Star and the Wolverhampton Society, to encourage and support further research into the city's varied past. Academics can apply, but they will not be eligible for the bursary if the paper forms part of their academic research.
The bursary winner will need to demonstrate a focus to their research, indicate clearly the significance of the information presented, communicate their information clearly and simply, and demonstrate that they have brought about a growth in understanding on the subject - rather than simply presenting information which is already widely known.
Heidi McIntosh, Senior Archivist for City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “This is always a big event in the calendar year for us and we always enjoy learning new things about this wonderful city and seeing how people have interpreted the city’s heritage.
“I really hope that through this we unearth some new and interesting things that we can share with residents, locals and visitors.”
The closing date for submissions is Friday 10 January, 2020 and application forms can be obtained by emailing Heidi.mcintosh@wolverhampton.gov.uk.
Successful individuals will be informed by the end of the following week.
