The Wolverhampton Dementia Action Alliance has brought together 30 local organisations which want to become more dementia friendly, including retailers, businesses, the emergency services, religious groups and education providers - and more are welcome.
The group meets on a regular basis to discuss ways in which they can improve services to better meet the needs of people living with dementia. The group's membership also includes carers and people with the condition who can speak first hand about their experiences.
Councillor Sandra Samuels OBE, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: "The Alliance exists to raise awareness and understanding of dementia, promote the good work being done here in the City of Wolverhampton to make people with the condition feel welcomed and better supported, and provide opportunities to hear first-hand from people living with dementia about what works well and not so well.
"Each organisation's contribution, no matter how big or small, is another step towards the City of Wolverhampton becoming a dementia friendly community and towards us improving the lives of people living with dementia and their carers.
"As an alliance, we want to support and promote existing local dementia services, encourage new initiatives to be formed and also remove some of the stigma surrounding this cruel disease.
"On behalf of people living with dementia and their carers, I'd like to thank those organisations in the City of Wolverhampton which have already joined the Dementia Action Alliance, and encourage other organisations to join the group as soon as possible - because together we can make a real difference."
The next meeting of the Wolverhampton Dementia Action Alliance will take place at the Jubilee Rooms, Christ Church, Tettenhall Wood, on Tuesday 31 October, 2017, from 10.45am to 12.45pm.
