And now Wolverhampton in Bloom co-ordinators are keeping their green fingers crossed that they were impressed by what they saw.
The 2 judges began their visit with a walking tour of the city centre, seeing features ranging from the Queen Square fountain to Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the displays on show along Dudley Street, Queen Street and the Mander Centre. They were then whisked away to enjoy the Victorian splendour of West Park.
The tour also took in Northycote Farm, the new i54 development, St Michael's Primary School and Danescourt Cemetery before finishing at Sunrise Residential home.
Laura Page, Wolverhampton in Bloom co-ordinator, said: "We wanted to show the judges something new this year, while still visiting all the key locations such as West Park which we hope will enable us to retain our Gold Award which we received in 2011.
"This year's theme is I Love Herbs and we have had a great response from the city's businesses, schools and residents who have been busy growing their own herbs and inviting us to see their spectacular garden displays.
"We hope the judges were impressed with what they saw and that we'll be celebrating another success when they announce the results in September."
