Merridale Primary School is a one-form entry school near to the centre of Wolverhampton. Our school is a happy and thriving place which serves a diverse community. We are committed to providing our children with a high-quality education and support.

We wish to appoint an experienced individual to work with our Safeguarding and Inclusion Team to offer and coordinate pastoral, practical and emotional support to students and their families. 

You will need to have experience of working with children and young people and have an excellent working knowledge of safeguarding as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023. You will also need to have had experience of working closely with families to support with Early Help interventions and programmes of support for children and families. 

The days and times of working are flexible e.g. 1 day per week could be 8am to 4.30pm with a 30 minute lunch break but days/times of working to be agreed upon appointment. 

You will work with a range of vulnerable pupils but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages including children who are looked after, children who have social care involvement, children with emotional, medical, or additional needs, children with challenging behaviour and children with an EHCP. 

You will need to be organised, efficient and work effectively as part of a team to meet the needs of our children and families. You will also need to be flexible and passionate and knowledgeable about supporting children and families in a school setting.  

We are looking for a Family Support Worker who:

  • has experience of working with children and families delivering support and interventions
  • has an excellent knowledge of safeguarding procedures 
  • has knowledge and experience of the Early Help process and can use Eclipse 
  • is able to arrange and lead meetings with families and other professionals 
  • is able to communicate effectively, including keeping written logs and notes using CPOMS 
  • is able to interact effectively with families, children and a range of agencies and professionals 
  • understands the importance of effective multi-agency working 
  • can work independently, organising own workload effectively and in a timely manner 
  • has a good knowledge of a range of issues, support and services for families and can signpost and engage with these 
  • has a full, clean driving licence and access to own car with business use insurance 
  • has an excellent standard of Literacy, Numeracy and IT skills 
  • has experience of working positively with children presenting challenging behaviours
  • is resilient and passionate about the social, emotional, and mental well-being of young people
  • can work effectively as part of a team and is committed to supporting children and their families.
