Register online

  • you can now register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
  • everyone is now responsible for registering themselves
  • you need to provide a few more details to register - including your national insurance number and date of birth

Do I need to do anything?

Most people who are already registered to vote will be registered automatically under the new system. They do not need to do anything. However, some people will need to take action to join the new register. We are writing to people to tell them whether they need to take action.

Annual canvass

Every year at the end of July we will write to each household within the city to ensure that we hold the correct details on our Electoral Register. This information form is known as a Household Enquiry Form (HEF). It is a legal requirement to respond to this form even if there have been no changes. Please notify us if anyone has moved in or out of the household. If someone has moved in, we will send them an Invitation to Register (ITR) form to complete to complete their registration.
