Free School Meals application
City of Wolverhampton Council can check your FSM application, if your child is at a school that uses our FSM Eligibility Checking Service.
If your child has a protected FSM claim in place, you do not need to apply again.
If you aren’t sure if your child has an FSM claim in place, please ask your child’s school.
If your child does not already have an FSM claim in place, the easiest way to apply is through your child’s school.
Transitional Protection is due to end on Monday 31 March 2025.
Existing benefits-related Free School Meals (FSM) claims are protected until the eligible child leaves primary school (children currently in Reception to Year 6) or secondary school (young people currently in Years 7 to 13 inclusive), even if parents/carers have a change in circumstance.
If your child is currently entitled to benefits-related Free School Meals (FSM) and in Year 6, your eligibility will be rechecked in readiness for them to start secondary school in September 2025.
Eligibility for new FSM claims identified on or after 1 April 2025 will be regularly checked. New claims will be cancelled if parents/carers are not found eligible. This may mean some children in the same family will be entitled to FSM and associated benefits (e.g. Holiday Activities and Food – HAF – Programme) while others aren’t.
If you have any questions about school meals, please contact your child/ren’s school/s. Menus, prices and arrangements vary from school to school.
