Managing Allegations against Staff, Carers and Volunteers who work with Children and Young People

Local Authorities will have a Designated Officer (DO) to be involved in the management and oversight of individual cases for dealing with allegations against people who work with children. If you wish to make a referral about a professional who works with children you can contact the Designated Officer to discuss the matter further.

  • Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child; or
  • Behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates he or she would pose a risk of harm if they work regularly or closely with children.
