Bin collection service changes for people who live in flats

The council's new fortnightly general waste bin collection service will be carried out in phases in the run-up to Christmas. Flats and apartments are not part of this change. If you live in a flat or an apartment, please continue to put your general waste into your communal bin every week and we will collect it as usual.

If you currently receive a free garden waste collection service, this will end in November 2018. Read more information below.

How come things are different for me?

The collection of general waste for flats and apartments is different from houses and is more complex, which is why it will be managed separately next year (2019). We will inform you about the changes before they happen.

Why are the changes happening?

The bin collection service must change because the City Council must make significant budget cuts because of a reduction in government funding, this means we can no longer keep services as they are. Eventually every household in the city will be part of the fortnightly bin collection service.

What do I need to do?

Nothing. You don't need to do anything differently - continue to put your general waste in your communal bin each week and we'll collect it.

And do keep up the good work on recycling. People in Wolverhampton have a recycling rate of around 40%, the city is aiming for a 50% recycling rate by 2020 as part of the government target. Here you can check which items can be recycled.

Green bin garden waste collection

If you live in a flat or an apartment with a garden, and you're currently receiving the free garden waste collection service from the council this will end in November 2018. This is because we must make significant budget cuts due to a reduction in Government funding, so we are unable to keep services as they are.

The final collection date in November will vary depending on where you live in the city, as changes to this service are being carried out in stages. Your last collection is stated in the calendar issued at the beginning of the year.

If, after November you would like to receive a garden waste collection service, you can sign up to the new service here.

Or if you'd rather not take up the service, we'll arrange to collect the green bin. Here you can find out how you arrange for your bin to be collected.

Residents who don't currently receive a free garden waste collection service from the council, should liaise with their landlord about arrangements for their garden waste collection service.
