The increase comes as the Government aims to make sure the UK's lowest paid workers receive the correct rates of pay - and ensuring that employers are paying their staff correctly at the legal rate.
It is against the law for employers not to pay the correct National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate - so if you own a business and discover you have been paying your workers below the correct minimum wage, you must pay any arrears immediately.
Commenting on the increase, Councillor John Reynolds, Cabinet Member for City Economy said "It is vital that any local employers in Wolverhampton, whether a small business or large, pay their staff the correct wage - either at the legal rate or above.
"We want to make sure that all employees in the city are receiving the pay that they are legally owed"
