Oak Meadow Primary School in Wednesfield is celebrating being shortlisted for Income Innovator of the Year at the National School Awards, which they also won in 2019.
Staff will be attending the announcement of the winner at the House of Lords on 8 December, which will bring together over 250 school leaders to showcase the excellent education work being undertaken across the UK.
Deputy Headteacher Paul Lane said: “We are so proud. Schools have been through challenging times over the last few years with the pandemic, so we’re proud for the children and for our wonderful supportive community.
“We just have the most amazing staff, everything they do revolves around the children. This award nomination is an accolade to them.”
The school was nominated for the award after turning itself into a mock university for the University of Oak Meadow Week, ending with a cap and gown graduation ceremony for all pupils.
Children were grouped in their houses, meaning students from reception all the way up to Year 6 worked together on 4 different topic areas: culture, sports, STEM and mental health.
Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, pictured on his visit to the University of Oak Meadow last year, said: "I was pleased to be invited along to the University of Oak Meadow and to see for myself some of the innovative learning techniques being employed by the school, which is providing exciting opportunities for its pupils.
